Our neighborhood has come together and are planning/planting our first community garden. The developer of the neighborhood donated land to our cause and we have sprung into action. The area is near a large pond in the back of all the houses and has been divided into 32 plots. We are so excited to get started and get our hands dirty. Although, we’ve never planted vegetables and really have no clue what we are going to plant other than tomatoes. I think this is a great way to bring our community together and help with raising food costs.
I think this idea may be spreading. My sister and her family have started one of their own too! They have a large backyard and too have gotten a green thumb. A few of their friends all have planted in their garden and becomes a weekly get together for the adults and the kiddos. I can’t wait to see what they have done and we can swap gardening stories and tips…something I never imagined us doing.
I am really excited to see how our garden progress, but first we must decide what we are going to plant and that is the fun part and the easiest. Right now we want the staple of vegetable gardens, the tomato, we’ll do some herbs, peppers and whatever else sounds good as we are are cruising down the aisles of the nursery. Wish us luck!
