Don’t Vote

Don’t vote.  Who cares about issues like what’s going to happen to your 401k or your bank, or your job, the environment, education, taxes, the war…  None of that stuff really matters, right?  You’re not affected by any of those things, right?  You don’t like politics, blah, blah, blah.

If that’s the case, then you must be living in another world.  Whether you like politics or not, the country I’m in needs help and needs people to speak up for what they want.  All of those things and more affect me directly, so I’m definitely going to vote and I really think you should to, but you have to register first.  The deadline is days away in some states, so you better hurry. Try Rock The Vote or Declare Yourself or just google it.  They make it pretty easy for you.  You’ve got no excuses!

Someone please give me an argument about why my presidential vote in California (or 3/4 of the rest of the states) really matters? Pretty much the same feeling as when I was voting in Kansas. The 48 winner-take-all states seem to go against democratic logic.

I read this quote in the latest issue of Good magazine and thought it spoke well to your comment. “Everyone can influence candidates, save our environment, shape our economy, protect human rights, advise our military, enrich our culture, educate our children, and secure our future, EXCEPT YOU. Many people believe that our voting system is flawed. They believe that the Electoral College is outdated, the count is fixed, and the system and its officials are corrupt. All of that might be true. But your vote is your only voice. If you want change, now is the time to speak up. BE THE EXCEPTION; ENGAGE OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM.”
